WHAT THOSE STRANGE TERMS MEAN |
RSC Mailer |
Regular Slotted Container
An ordinary corrugated box. You can see the slots when the box is flat (not yet assembled).
A mailer is a box with a single large flap for a lid -- sort of like a cigar box. |
Kraft
#3W |
The color of the box.
Kraft is ordinary cardboard brown.
#3W is number three white -- plain white.
(We've never heard of a number 2 white or a number 4 white.) |
175#
200#
350# |
These values refer to the BURST STRENGTH of the box.
The greater the value , the stronger the box, but they are not the capacity of the box.
A 200# box is, usually, marked to hold 65 pounds safely.
A 350# box is, usually, marked to hold 120 pounds safely. |
FOL |
Full overlapping flaps.
Instead of meeting in the middle -- like on most boxes -- these flaps, each, reach from one side of the box to the other.
This forms a stronger box with a bit more cushioning.
Widely used on boxes intended for pictures or mirrors. |
SW
S/W
DW
D/W |
Single wall or double wall construction.
Most corrugated boxes are single wall.
Occasionally, on a higher strength box, the manufacturer feels they
ought to emphasize the box is single wall construction and so the
notation SW or S/W. |
Extra scores |
Scores are light depressions formed into the walls of a box.
The cardboard can be bent easily at the scoring marks.
You can reduce the height of a box by slitting the corners of a box down to the score mark and bending the wall at the score. |
TTM |
Tuck top mailer.
These boxes have a single hinged lid on top -- like a cigar box.
There are a number of different styles. |
Roll Side Tuck top mailer
Self Locking Mailer
Master Mailer |
Variations configurations of ordinary mailers. |
